240 Volt Configurable Brew-Boss Electric Brewery System V3

http://www.brew-boss.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BB240-CFG-V3

240 Volt Configurable Brew-Boss Electric Brewery System

This item allows you to configure a 240 volt system just how you need/want it.

To configure a complete system, you will need to add the other components (Pump, Kettle, Heater Element, COFI Mash Filter, and any other optional accessories you may want).

This system includes the newest Brew-Boss V3 controller. This controller has a larger 20 character by 4 line back-lit LCD display that provides more information as well as makes the integrated fermentation mode more user friendly. it also includes a rotary switch that allows the user to manually control the heater and pump as well as brew without the need for the companion Android App. The controller is universal for all countries that have 208-240 volt power. No separate 120 volt input is required for the USA when used with our new universal voltage DC pumps. (Note, this controller only works with 208-240 volt pumps!). The new controller also has a dedicated always on 240 volt receptacle for powering/charging the tablet!

The V3 controller is supplied with 15 foot long 10 gauge cable for powering the unit with 240 Volts AC. The 240VAC power cable is supplied with a molded L6-30P twist lock plug. It is highly recommended that you install a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) type breaker on the circuit(s) you will be plugging the Brew-Boss into or use our inline GFI unit. If you need a plug other than the L6-30P provided, you may simply cut the supplied plug off and connect a plug that matches your outlet.

The controller requires a 220-240 Volt circuit of at least 30 Amps with a GFI breaker (or our inline GFI) installed to operate. The controller has a single 240 Volt L6-30R twist lock output receptacle that connects to a Brew-Boss Heater assembly or any other L6-30P heater (like the Blichmann Engineering Boil Coil). A digital temperature probe is included with this controller that plugs directly into the front of the controller.

The controller has a 20 character x 4 line back-lit LCD display that displays pertinent operational data as well as a rotary switch that allows the user to interact with the controller to manually control the heater and pump as well as brew in Stand-Alone mode.

If you desire a complete system, you must add the desired optional items (Kettle, Heater Element, Mash Method, and Optional Accessories). If you don't select any options, you will receive just the controller and temperature probe.

The Base Price Shown for this item is for the Brew-Boss Controller and temperature probe only!
You will need an Android tablet with a 7" or larger screen to operate this controller/system. It must have a screen size of at least 7" (will not work on Android Phones!).
Note: We no longer sell Android Tablets with our systems. You will need an Android Tablet to run the Brew-Boss app on. We recommend a 10.1" screen or larger, but it will run on tablets with screen sizes 7" or larger. The app is not designed for phones and will not run on phones. If you don't have an Android tablet, we recommend this one from Amazon or an Amazon Fire tablet.

If you are installing this onto your own kettle, you will also need to add the weldless direct connect temperature probe adapter from our Brewing Accessories page if you don't already have a thermowell on your kettle.

If you want a complete system, you must add the following items as well at a minimum:
  • Heater Element Assembly
  • Kettle
  • COFI Mash Filter (same size as kettle)
Tip: You can click on the "Update Price" button to see your total cost as you add items.

Heater Options

The Brew-Boss Heaters are all stainless steel and designed by Brew-Boss especially for brewing.

The heaters clean very easily and look brand new after each brew session. The 5500 Watt is the most popular as it is the fastest. You must have at least a 30 AMP circuit if you plan on using this heater element. Some countries limit their 220-240 VAC circuits to 20 Amps. If you live in a country that limits you to 20 Amps, select the 3500 Watt heater Assembly. The cost of the 3500 Watt is slightly higher as our volume is not as great, so our pricing is a little more for that version. Also, if you want a 10 gallon system, you must order the 3500 Watt element. The 5500 Watt is simply too powerful and cannot be throttled down enough to maintain mash temperatures accurately. If you don't have 30 amps available, choose the 3500 Watt element, but only if you are purchasing a 10 or 15 gallon system. There is not enough heat capacity in the 3500 Watt heater for the 20 gallon kettle. The heater element options on this page include an 8 foot long L6-30 extention cable that plugs into the controller on one end and onto the element on the other,

Kettle Options

The kettles are complete and are supplied with TIG welded ferrules for the heater(s) and pump/output ports. They also include the Weldless Direct Contact Temperature Probe Mount. The 15 and 20 Gallon Kettles include electrically etched volume markings on the inside of the kettle.

20 Gallon Brew-Boss kettle with volume marking on the inside. Volume markings Included with all 15 and 20 gallon kettles. (sorry not available on 10 gallon kettles)

Each kettle is also equipped with an Accessory Port near the top of the kettle. This port has a Cam-Lock quick connect installed on both the inside and outside of the kettle to allow connection of the mash system hardware, optional Swiirl-Boss, or optional chiller. The kettle includes a cover/lid as well.

Brew-Boss Accessory Port
The 10 gallon kettle will accommodate batches up to 5 gallons. The 15 gallon kettle is designed for primarily 5 gallon batches but will do 10 gallon batches using the "Hybrid Method" discussed on our FAQ's page. The 20 gallon kettle will do 5 or 10 gallon batches and also 15 gallon batches if needed using the Hybrid method.

Make certain if you need a kettle to add it to your shopping cart in the options below.

Mash Hardware Options
Mashing is the brewer's term for the hot water steeping process which hydrates the barley, activates the malt enzymes, and converts the grain starches into fermentable sugars. The Brew-Boss system performs efficient mashing by continuously recirculating the wort during mashing through the grain bed, improving the efficiency over traditional Brew-In-A-Bag type systems. Recirculating the wort through the mash also creates a clearer wort, as the grain acts as a filter media as well. The Brew-Boss system provides two different methods for accomplishing the mashing task:

Brew-In-A-Bag (BIABag)
Center-Out-Forced-Infusion (COFI, our patent pending mashing technology that can increase Efficiency)

The Brew-In-A-Bag (BIABag) Mash Option

This mash option uses a stainless steel false bottom along with a mesh bag to contain the grains. A sparge/sprayer arm mounts directly to the accessory port on the kettle and provides even coverage of the grain bed with recirculated wort.

Brew-In-A-Bag Mash Option Showing False bottom, Sparge Sprayer Arm, and Mesh Bag Installed

The Brew-In-A-Bag Mash Option includes the following components:
  • Stainless Steel False Bottom to Keep Bag from Touching Heater Element
  • Copper Sparge/Sprayer Arm Connects to Recirculation Port on Kettle
  • 24 Volt Brushless DC Brewery Grade Pump with Stainless Steel Pump Head (Can be excluded in Options)
  • Stainless Steel Cam-Lock Fittings for Hose Connections
  • Triclamp to Female NPT Adapter for Direct Mount of Pump to Kettle
  • Stainless Steel Flow Regulation Ball Valve (You Install on Pump Discharge)
  • TriClamp Gaskets and Clamps
  • Brew-In-A-Bag Mesh Bag
  • Stainless Steel Wing Nut Type Hose Clamps for Hoses on High Pressure Side of Pump
  • 4' of Brewery Grade Silicone Tubing
  • High Quality Teflon Pipe Thread Tape

The COFI mash Infusion Filter Option

This mash option uses a Patent Pending stainless steel mesh basket (COFI Filter) to contain the grains. This mesh basket is also equipped with a cover that prevents grains from exiting the basket over the top edge during mashing. This allows higher flow rates during mashing which can provide more efficient conversion. Recirculated wort is delivered to the grains via a special center infusion tube that maximizes coverage of all grains inside the filter, creating a very steady temperature profile within the grain bed without the need for stirring. The COFI filter also includes a Patent Pending false bottom within the filter that allows the grains to be squeezed when they are removed like a reverse French Press. This assures maximum extraction of sugars trapped within the grains. This eliminates the need for a sparge.

It includes the following components:
  • Stainless Steel Mesh COFI Infusion Filter
  • False Bottom for COFI Filter with Center Infusion Tube
  • 24 Volt Brushless DC Brewery Grade Pump with Stainless Steel Pump Head (Can be excluded in Options)
  • 90 Degree Barbed Elbow Threads Onto Center Infusion Tube
  • Stainless Steel Cam-Lock Fittings for All Hose Connections
  • Stainless Steel Flow Regulation Ball Valve (Installed on Pump Discharge)
  • TriClamp Gaskets and Clamps
  • Stainless Steel Wing Nut Type Hose Clamps for Hoses on High Pressure Side of Pump
  • 6' of Brewery Grade Silicone Tubing
  • Stainless Steel Lift Ring for COFI Filter
  • High Quality Teflon Pipe Thread Tape

COFI Filter Attached to Accessory Port

Other Options

In addition to the above options which are required for a complete system, we offer some options that allow you to enhance your Brew-Boss system.

Pick-Up Tube Kit - This durable Tri-Clamp pickup tube is constructed of beautiful polished 304 stainless steel. It attaches directly to the Tri-Clamp ferrule on the Brew-Boss kettle using a Tri-Clamp gasket and Tri-Clamp Clamp (gasket and clamp included). It allows you to drain nearly all of the wort out of your kettle without tipping the kettle and disrupting the trub on the bottom. Mount this between your kettle and valve or between your kettle and pump. Includes pick-up tube with 1.5" Tri-Clamp ferrules.

In-Line GFI - This is a portable In-Line GFI unit with L6-30 plugs already on it. This is handy if you do not have room in your home panel to add a GFI circuit breaker. it simply plugs into a L6-30 receptacle and the Brew-Boss controller plugs into it.

Hops-Boss - This is our patent pending automated hops feeder offered at a special reduced price if ordered with a system. Automatically adds your hops at the proper time.

Swirl-Boss - This is a nifty whirlpool device that mounts directly to the accessory port on the kettle and allows you to whirlpool your wort before transferring to your fermenter. Special reduced price when ordered with a Brew-Boss system.

Condenser-Boss Steam Condenser - If you brew indoors, you definitely want to consider adding this item to your order. This device simply connects to the accessory port on the kettle and to your cold water supply (tap water) and converts most of the steam generated during the boiling step into water. It allows you to brew inside without creating clouds in your home! It also reduces the amount of electricity required to maintain a boil, so it save energy and $$ as well.

90 Degree Pump Mounting Kit - This kit option includes a 90 degree elbow and an additional gasket and clamp to allow you to rotate the pump 90 degrees as shown in the main image for this item (the image with the system sitting on the brew stand). If you don't like the pump sticking straight out then order this add-on kit.

Accu-Fill Automated kettle Filler - This device attaches to the accessory port on the kettle and to your water supply. It automatically dispenses the proper amount of water into your kettle before brewing. it can be controlled by the Android App and included in your brew steps or used manually in stand-alone mode. This device is great for Brew-on-Premise operators, production breweries, or those that want cool automation!

Chiller - We have found this to be the best chiller on the market. The copper in Plastic design never plugs and provides very high cooling efficiency from your cold tap water. Much better design than flat plate chillers that are prone to plugging up and impossible to clean and much more efficient than immersion chillers.

Fast Ferment Fermenter - This is quite possibly the greatest fermenter ever designed. We use these exclusively in our Brew-On-Premise operation and they are awesome. They eliminate the need for a primary to secondary transfer (potential oxygen contact and contamination) and your retired yeast sediment never touches the beer you drink. They also make harvesting yeast for re-use a dream. Once you use a FastFerment you'll never wonder how you every got buy with carboys or buckets.

Trivet Set - These silicone trivets are great for placing your Brew-Boss kettle on to prevent heat transfer to your table or bench. The protect the surface and keep the kettle from accidentally being slid around, so they add safety as well. We sell these for less than our local Walmart does, so if you need them, add them to the system order.

Hoist - This is a really nice double line rope hoist that makes removing your grain bag, grain basket, or COFI filter very easy. It is auto locking so you don't have to tie it off or have someone else hold it. You'll need something to lift your grains out if you have a 15 or 20 gallon system. This hoist is the best we've found.plugs into it.

Winning Beer Made on Brew Boss Pro 1BBL System

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/local/indianola/2018/03/25/carlisle-brewer-made-final-four-des-moines-registers-beer-brackets/456320002/

Carlisle brewer made it to final four in Des Moines Register's Beer Brackets

by Paige Godden

A Carlisle brewer made it into the final four of the Des Moines Register's 2018 Beer Brackets.

BackRoad Brewery's Sunny Daze, a lemon blonde ale, beat out 60 other breweries in the bracket challenge.

It was one of the smallest breweries nominated, and the smallest left in the final four, but Backroad's owner, Eric Moorman, said he believes his small-town friends helped propel him to near victory.

There are several places around Indianola you can give the beer a try, including The Zoo, The Local Vine and Hy-Vee Market Grille.

Moorman opened the BackRoad Brewery last year at 140 N. First St. in Carlisle. His brews are usually on tap at Back Alley Smokehouse in Carlisle, where beer-lovers can also buy a growler of BackRoad’s brews.

BackRoad is a nanobrewery, which means the beer is made in three barrels.

Each batch of beer equals about 35 gallons, and since the brewery operates on a smaller scale than most brewers it's easier to make sure the flavors are perfect.

The Marine Corps. veteran was able to open his shop with the help of Warren County Economic Development, which gave Moorman a $1,000 start-up grant through the Home Base Iowa program. The program aims to attract more veterans to the state.

Backroads was eliminated in a semi-final round at the Iowa Taproom March 23. You can vote on the two finalists, Bridge Road, a brown ale by Fenders Brewing, and a pilsner by West O Beer. Online voting closes Friday, March 28.

Reviews: Brew Boss Electric Homebrewing Systems & Equipment

Reviews: Brew Boss Electric Homebrewing Systems & Equipment

"I tell everyone about how happy I am. This thing is amazing. I am a new brewer tonight will be my 4th brew. My second one, a buddy, who has been brewing semi-professionally for over 30 years, said my second beer needs to be submitted for judging. 5 step mash and he said. 'there is no way you could do that on anything but a brewboss'. I had never brewed any beer in my life and I am brewing some of the best beer I have ever drank."
- Raymond M - Email

"I love my brew boss. I've seen a lot of EBIAB systems but the COFI system and custom software puts brew boss over the top from all its competitors"
@SchumacherDavid Twitter

"I bought one of these systems two years ago and am extremely pleased. I'm now brewing beer that is every bit as good as what you can buy in the store."
Rich H - Facebook

"I'm absolutely sold on this system. I must say as well that the 40 min video on YouTube is the absolute best example of an innovator who is certainly passionate about their product. The brew boss with cofi filter is simple where it should be and technical where it needs to be. Ultimately I want to brew the best beer with the shortest amount of cleanup and amount of gear. This seems to fit the bill perfectly."
Franklin C

"This system has kept my passion for homebrewing. I was sick and tired of all the tanks, water temp mangement, pumping and pouring back and forth, 4+ containers to decontaminate, multiple pumps etc. This system is incredibly well engineered and built. The welding and bonding quality was far above expectations and really makes me feel confident I can use this system for decades. It's so intuitive, I recommend it to people just starting brewing, because they will end up putting their money into coolers, heaters, burners, etc just to end up where they could be with this system with 0 frustration and 6 times the cleaning. It's not just making great beer once, it's making that great beer over and over for years to come and your system does it."

Sincerely,
Richard T.

"I was just sitting here enjoying another of my fine beers when it struck me to email you. This time its not with a question or issue but with a compliment. I've now brewed about 50 sessions on the Brew-Boss and the thing is just great. The repeatability of my process has never been better and I am brewing better beer because of it. I've got my efficiency dialed in at 80% and my last 10 brews i've hit my expected numbers exactly.

If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area you need to look me up because I seriously owe you a beer (or more). Thanks for the great support and a great product. If you ever need anything from me, please don't hesitate to ask"

Justin S.

"I have about 15 or so batches on my Brew Boss with bag system and can't say enough how pleased I am with it. From support by Darin to streamlining my brew-days and most of all the quality of beer from my system. always experimenting and have been trying to brew some big beers with the 15 gal. system. Have tried all 3 recipes that came with the system and all came out great. Hope to hear from all the new Brew Boss owners, you made a great choice!"

"Smacker" - Homebrewtalk

"I have to say the thing I really like about the system is the consistency and quality (of the beer). I dialed the system into Beer Smith, I put the grains etc. into the program and I pretty much do not have to check my gravity or water levels. If I brew 5.5 gallons, it gives me 5.5 gallons in the carboy, with the exact gravity that I want, and half the time that it is brewing I wonder away and do other things and check in on the system or throw in hops. In addition I find with the no sparge in the COFI the quality of my beer has went up, not to mention I can hold a consistent mash temp when it is 15 F outside.

Overall I am very happy with my purchase and I wish I would have bought a Brew Boss sooner than I did."

"mcgimpkins" - Homebrewtalk

"Amazing, easy to brew, easy to clean. FANTASTIC customer service. 20 minutes to heat strike water vs. an hour with a blichmann burner. Only 1 pot to clean instead of 2 and rinsing out the 3rd, an hlt. Running pbw in the EXCHILERATOR vs using a toilet brush on an immersion chiller. Steady no fuss mash temps vs. turning on and off the propane on my RIMS system. Anybody want to buy my 3x 15 gallon, 2 pump, 3 burner RIMS setup?"

"OkashiiBrew" - Homebrewtalk

"Another great brew session tonight the system is amazing! Thank you Brew boss!"

Hugh C - Facebook

"The Brew-Boss worked outside last night at -6. Pretty dang impressive. I have to brew outside due to some constraints. This was the first test without any extra help like insulation on the kettle etc."

Brew Boss - STAINLESS STEEL ACCESSORY PORT MOUNTED SWIRL-BOSS WHIRLPOOL WAND

http://www.brew-boss.com/product-p/sb-bb-apmount.htm

STAINLESS STEEL ACCESSORY PORT MOUNTED SWIRL-BOSS WHIRLPOOL WAND

This version of the Swirl-Boss is designed to connect directly to the accessory port on the Brew-Boss Kettle. It is constructed of 304 Stainless Steel and is CNC bent to allow a simple mounting arrangement. The threaded section is tig welded. This unit will last a lifetime! A female "High Flow" Camlock attaches to the male Camlock of the Brew-Boss accessory port. If you want to use the Swirl-Boss with your Brew-Boss system, this is the version you want. This item works on Brew-Boss 15 and 20 gallon kettles only. It is 16 inches long and will not work in 10 gallon kettles. Please be certain that you have at least 16.5 inches of distance between the accessory port and the bottom of the kettle.

NOTE: If you don't own a Brew-Boss kettle, and want to use this device, you need to also purchase our Value Accessory Port for your kettle. The Value Accessory Port allows you to easily connect a hose to the outside of your kettle. Installation of the accessory port requires drilling a 7/8" diameter hole near the top of your kettle.

The Swirl-Boss Whirlpool Wand is an innovative device that creates a very fast whirlpool in your wort, using only the standard pump supplied with the #BrewBoss system. A special laser cut Flow Matched “E” Nozzle Design Directs Water Jets Along Kettle Wall and Inward at the Proper Angle to Optimize Whirlpool Rotation. This provides the fastest whirlpool rotation speed available. #Whirlpooling is important to perform as it creates the magic “Hops Cone” in the middle of your kettle so you can transfer your wort to the fermenter free of hops trub. Because all the hops and other trub are forced to the middle of the kettle, transferring your wort to the fermenter via the valve on the outside of the kettle grabs clean wort, leaving the trub behind. Attach the Swirl-Boss to the accessory port on your Brew-Boss kettle and turn the pump on. In just a few minutes, the magic Hops Cone will be created.

Please note that the Swirl-Boss will not work with the Brew-Boss 10 gallon kettles.

The controller has a single 240 Volt L6-30R twist lock output plug that connects to a Brew-Boss Heater using the supplied L6-30 extension cord. A digital temperature probe is included with this controller. The controller is shipped with a L6-30R twist lock receptacle for a heater that mates to the Brew-Boss integrated elements. If you have a different heater, you can simply cut the end of the heater cable off and wire to your heater.

Included OptionsIn addition to the above items, this system includes the following options:

Pick-Up Tube- This durable Tri-Clamp pickup tube is constructed of beautiful polished 304 stainless steel. It attaches directly to the Tri-Clamp ferrule on the Brew-Boss kettle using a Tri-Clamp gasket and Tri-Clamp Clamp (gasket and clamp not included). It allows you to drain nearly all of the wort out of your kettle without tipping the kettle and disrupting the trub on the bottom. Mount this between your kettle and valve or between your kettle and pump. Includes pick-up tube with 1.5" Tri-Clamp ferrules.

Swirl-Boss - This is a nifty whirlpool device that mounts directly to the accessory port on the kettle and allows you to whirlpool your wort before transferring to your fermenter. Special reduced price when ordered with a Brew-Boss system.

Trivet Set - These Three (3) silicone trivets are great for placing your Brew-Boss kettle on to prevent heat transfer to your table or bench. The protect the surface and keep the kettle from accidentally being slid around, so they add safety as well. We sell these for less than our local Walmart does, so if you need them, add them to the system order.

Tip: Using a Hop Back for Homebrewed Beer

http://beersmith.com/blog/2009/11/25/using-a-hop-back-for-homebrewed-beer/

By: Brad Smith

hopback

The “hop back” is used by many micro and commercial brewers to add hoppy flavor and aroma to any beer. #Homebrewers can also take advantage of this technique with simple equipment to add additional aroma to home brewed beer.

Using a Hop Back

A hop back is a device that is inserted in line as the beer is transferred and cooled from the hot boiler into the fermenter. The main purpose of a hop back is to transfer delicate hop oils and aromas that would otherwise be boiled off in the boiler. The technique is used for many ales and related styles where a hoppy aroma is desirable.

Whole or plug hops are used in a hop back, as the goal of the device is to maximize surface contact between the hot wort and the hops. Typically 1-2 oz of hops are used for a 5 gallon home batch. The hop back is inserted at the hot end, closest to the boiler to maximize the transfer of hop oils. Little actual alpha bitterness is added by a hop back, as the wort is not boiling, but a lot of fragile hop oils and aromas can be added. Since aroma, and not bitterness, are the goal it is best to use low alpha aroma hop varieties in your hop back.

Commercial brewers often make dual use of the hops from their hop back. After the hops have been used in a hop-back, many of the fragile oils have been taken out but the high alpha bittering hop oils remain. Therefore brewers can take the hops used in the hop back and boil them to extract bitterness in a subsequent batch. While this is difficult for homebrewers to do unless they brew multiple batches in a day, some homebrewers have been able to reuse hops in this way when creating parti-gyle brews (more than one batch of beer from a single mash).

You can purchase small hopback device from many home brewing supply stores. These typically consist of a small watertight container that can be easily opened and sanitized before use. Hops are added to the container and it is sealed for use. An inlet tube and outlet tube flow the hot wort through the hop back, and then into either a counterflow chiller or other cooling device before the wort is transported to the fermenter.

Making your own Hop Back

You can also build a hop-back at home from most any watertight heat resistant container. One of the more innovative home designs I’ve seen consists of nothing more than a ball canning jar with holes drilled into the top where tubes and fittings have been added to produce a watertight seal. An article on Bodensatz brewing (image shown above) has one of these devices that uses a copper or stainless steel put scrubber to help form a filter on the outgoing end of the hop back to prevent hops from plugging up the outlet hose. If you create such a device it is important to use lead-free solder when soldering the pieces together, and check the system to make sure it is watertight before use.

HOPS-BOSS AUTOMATED PELLET HOPS FEEDER FOR USE WITH BREW-BOSS CONTROLLERS V2.0 OR GREATER

HOPS-BOSS AUTOMATED PELLET HOPS FEEDER FOR USE WITH BREW-BOSS CONTROLLERS V2.0 OR GREATER

The Hops-Boss is an automatic pellet hops feeder that plugs directly into the Brew Boss controller (V2.0 and greater) and allows you to dispense up to seven (7) different hops additions at the times you specify during the brew session. It can also be used to dispense other finings such as Irish Moss, etc.

You simply set your times in the Brew-Boss step definition and the Hops-Boss will do the rest.

The Hops-Boss is constructed from 304 Stainless Steel with specially machined plastic Hops-Cups (we call them Mortar Shells) and simply sits on the edge of nearly any kettle.

This version includes a wiring kit that allows you to connect this to your V2.0 or greater Brew-Boss controller using an RJ-45 type plug (similar to Ethernet). It requires you to drill a hole in the bottom of your controller for cable access. Please see the picture associated with this item that shows the V2.0 controller. If you have a controller that looks like that, then this Hops-Boss will work. The Brew-Boss Controller is not included with this item!
